Who We Are:
Ronak Dandia a Craft Product Designer specialized in ceramics, turned entrepreneur, creator, and seller of handcrafted products that personify creativity and craftsmanship. Our products are designed to elevate everyday living and enhance the way people connect.
At Studio Asao, we plan our business as thoughtfully as we design and make our products. We ask ‘why’ every step of the way. At our studio experimentation rules and culture and creativity thrives. This helps us grow responsibly and build a strong business relationship. Also, it’s more fun than we ever imagined!
We believe in quality over quantity, and in making and selling beautiful, well made goods that stand the test of time. Our products are designed to be durable, resist trends, and be functional for the years to come. In a society that has grown accustomed to short lived products, our goal in designing new colours and styles is to complement existing collections, not replace them!
We design, make and sell - being responsible for it all means that we’re better at each aspect of what we do.
All our products are Eco-Friendly.
What we do:
Studio ASAO is a ceramic design studio, specializing in hand-crafted pottery, working hand-in-hand with traditional potters of Rajasthan. We create contemporary products that are innovative and quirky, yet practical and useful. The products we make are entirely hand-thrown on the potter's wheel, without the use of any casting mould or die. While ceramic innovation is our leading focus, we believe in preserving the local craft techniques and skills. Every product at the studio is developed with collective inputs from both the artisans and designers working together every step of the way. We offer exclusive, limited edition products that are made in small batches. Being entirely hand-made, even products from the same batch are unique in their own way.
The founder of the ASAO, Ronak Dandia (graduate of the Indian institute of Crafts and Design, Jaipur) offers a fresh approach to hand-thrown pottery, experimenting with slips, glazes, refined clay bodies and different firing techniques. His knowledge of ceramics also extends to preparing his own clay bodies, glazes and building pottery equipment.
Having travelled throughout the country and gaining experience in various traditional crafts and industrial processes, has helped Ronak Dandia not only develop products efficiently but also contemporize them while maintaining the tradition of the craft.
Some of our collaborations with various artisans from different regions of India include the Ayyanar Horses of Tamil Nadu, Poshina Horses of Gujarat, the various pottery traditions of Rajasthan and the Black Pottery tradition of Nizamabad.
Today Studio ASAO is engaged with projects all over the country, with our manufacturing unit and design studio based in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
